Breast reshaping

Whether breasts have become too large, too low, too small, or just uneven, there are many reasons why a woman may seek a breast reshaping procedure.  This class of procedures seeks to give the breast a size, shape, and position that better meets her goals.  And they can be performed by altering the amount and position of skin, removing or repositioning the breast tissue, changing the location and size of the nipple-areola complex, or adding a breast implant.

All of these procedures are almost always performed on an outpatient basis, and the expected recovery time is about 2 weeks.

Breast reduction

One of the most commonly performed breast reshaping procedures, a breast reduction can provide relief for back, neck, and shoulder pain as well as improve the aesthetic appearance of the breasts. This procedure is best thought of as a breast lift (excess skin removed and nipple-areola complex made smaller and moved to a more ideal position) where heavy breast tissue is also removed in order to make the breast smaller and more lightweight.

When performed by the HBR team, breast reduction is an outpatient procedure, and the recovery period is approximately 2-3 weeks.

While each breast reduction performed by the HBR team is customized to meet each patient’s specific goals, there are 6 general steps to the procedure. Please view the animation below for a step-by-step description of how it is performed.

Breast lift (mastopexy

The size and volume of the breast gradually decreases with age, and this can be exacerbated by changes such as weight loss and breastfeeding. The amount of breast tissue is unchanged (in contrast to a breast reduction, where some of the breast tissue is removed), while the excess breast skin is removed in order to create a tighter and more lifted skin envelope, and the nipple-areola complex is moved to a higher, more ideal position.

Breast lift is performed as an outpatient procedure, and usually takes 2-3 weeks for recovery.

Breast augmentation

If the amount of breast tissue is thought to be too small, then placement of breast implants can significantly enhance the size and shape of the breast. This operation is equally beneficial to both cis-gender females and trans-gender females.

Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure, and recovery is usually complete after 1-2 weeks.
